The Spirit of Adventure
Many
people visit Ha Giang but few know this place. The infamous Quyet Tien prison
used to detain political prisoners and sentenced them to very heavy sentences.
It existed for about 20 years from 1959 to 1979, then the camp moved to
Tuyen
Quang province.

The camp is located in Quyet Tien commune, 500m from National
Highway 4C, more than 3 hectares wide, surrounded by a 5m high stone wall. It is
now deserted, with the huts used by people to raise cows and goats.
Google search shows very few results for Quyet Tien prison! It is said that
Quyet Tien prison once detained Nguyen Huu Dang (Head of the Organizing
Committee for the Declaration of Independence Day on September 2, 1945, after
the Nhan Van Giai Pham incident, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison).
Ha Giang is also famous for
Cang Bac Me (Bac Me prison), which was built by the
French period, which will be mentioned later...

Temple of Dan Village
Close to the prison, also located in Quyet Tien commune,
Quan Ba
district is the Temple of Dan Village.
Located on a mound in the middle of Quyet Tien valley, with scattered limestone
peaks and towers, typical of a quite rare "old karst landscape" on the
Dong Van
Rock Plateau.
This temple was founded by the
Tay and Nung people around the area. Around there
is a cluster of ancient Sau Sau trees, towering, with big roots that measures a
few people's linking arms around, and there are many fields of blooming roses
around.
Dan village festival takes place on the 3rd day of the lunar March. A place to
visit on your journey to explore Quan Ba, Ha Giang.
